Dholera SIR Gets ₹2,784 Cr Approval for Trunk Infrastructure Development

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, has approved approximately ₹2,784.83 crore for trunk infrastructure development within a 22.5 sq km “activation area” of the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR)—part of the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor in Ahmedabad district.

Though the SIR spans 920 sq km, Phase I focuses on a 153 sq km area, with initial work centered in the 22.5 sq km activation zone designed to attract early investment. The infrastructure package includes new roads, water supply, sewage systems, and effluent treatment plants, with funding provided by the DMIC Trust as equity in the project’s SPV.

Land contributions will come from the Gujarat government, while the DMIC Trust will provide up to ₹3,000 crore in combined equity and debt for this initial phase. Additional funding for later phases will be sourced through SPV earnings and debt.

Construction is slated to begin in 2015–16 and is expected to complete by 2018–19. Dholera SIR’s strategic location near urban centers such as Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, and Bhavnagar further enhances its potential.
