chevron_rightGujarat Launches Its First Data Centre Policy; Dholera Set to Become India's Digital Infrastructure Powerhouse
The Government of Gujarat has unveiled its first dedicated Data Centre Policy 2026–29, marking a significant step towards strengthening the state's digital infrastructure and attracting large-scale technology investments. The policy aims to bring nearly ₹6 lakh crore in investments while developing 7.5 GW of data centre capacity, positioning Gujarat among India's leading destinations for hyperscale data centres.
A major highlight of the policy is the strong focus on Dholera Special Investment Region (Dholera SIR). With world-class infrastructure, reliable power availability, expressway connectivity, an upcoming international airport, and planned industrial ecosystems, Dholera is expected to play a pivotal role in Gujarat's digital transformation. State leaders have indicated that Dholera is being positioned as a future global-scale data centre destination.
To encourage investment, the policy offers multiple incentives, including capital support, power tariff benefits, interest subsidies, and faster approvals through a streamlined clearance mechanism. These measures are designed to attract hyperscale cloud providers, AI infrastructure companies, and technology enterprises looking to establish next-generation data centres in Gujarat.
The policy also promotes sustainability by encouraging the use of renewable energy in data centre operations, aligning with Gujarat's broader vision of building environmentally responsible digital infrastructure. This approach supports both India's growing AI ecosystem and the increasing demand for green, energy-efficient data centres.
Industry experts believe the initiative will create substantial employment opportunities, accelerate investments in cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure, and further strengthen Gujarat's position as a preferred destination for technology-driven industries. As demand for digital services continues to rise, Dholera's strategic location and infrastructure readiness could make it one of India's most important data centre ecosystems in the coming years.
