Govt Approves ₹91,000 Crore Tata Semiconductor SEZ in Dholera

India has taken a major step toward strengthening its semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, with the government approving a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the country’s first semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera Smart City.

The project will be developed by Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Ltd, with a planned investment of approximately ₹91,000 crore. This development marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to reduce dependence on semiconductor imports and build a strong domestic chip manufacturing base.

The proposed facility will be located in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), one of India’s most ambitious greenfield industrial hubs. Spread across 66.16 hectares, the plant is expected to generate around 21,000 jobs, contributing significantly to employment and regional economic growth.

The approval comes after key reforms in SEZ regulations introduced in June 2025, where the minimum land requirement for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing units was reduced from 50 hectares to 10 hectares. These policy changes have made it easier for large-scale investments to enter the sector and accelerate project implementation.

In addition to Tata’s semiconductor project, several other companies have also announced investments in India’s semiconductor and electronics ecosystem. This indicates growing confidence among global and domestic players in India’s manufacturing potential and its position in the global supply chain.
