Dholera to Become World's Largest Data Centre City Under Gujarat's New Data Centre Policy

Gujarat has taken a major step toward strengthening India's digital infrastructure by announcing its vision to develop Dholera as the world's largest Data Centre City. The announcement comes alongside the launch of the state's dedicated Data Centre Policy 2026–29, which aims to attract large-scale investments and establish Gujarat as a global destination for AI, cloud computing, and hyperscale data centres.

According to the Gujarat Government, Dholera has been identified as the state's primary data centre destination due to its world-class infrastructure, planned urban development, reliable power availability, and strategic connectivity. With infrastructure such as the upcoming international airport, expressway connectivity, and industrial ecosystem, Dholera is well-positioned to support the next generation of digital infrastructure projects.

The newly introduced policy targets approximately 7.5 GW of data centre capacity and aims to attract investments worth nearly ₹6 lakh crore in the coming years. Government officials believe the initiative will encourage global hyperscale operators, AI companies, cloud service providers, and technology enterprises to establish their facilities in Gujarat, with Dholera expected to emerge as the flagship location.

To encourage investment, Gujarat has introduced several incentives, including financial support, faster approvals, power-related benefits, and policies promoting renewable energy usage. The government's vision is not only to strengthen digital infrastructure but also to create a sustainable ecosystem capable of supporting the rapidly growing demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital services.

Industry experts believe this initiative could generate thousands of employment opportunities while attracting global technology companies and boosting economic development across the region. As demand for AI infrastructure and cloud services continues to grow worldwide, Dholera is expected to play a significant role in positioning Gujarat among the leading digital investment destinations in India.
