MoEF Grants Environmental Clearance to Dholera SIR

Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR)—a 920 sq km greenfield smart city in Gujarat—was recommended for environmental clearance by the expert appraisal committee of the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF).

Initially notified in 2009 under the Gujarat SIR Act, Dholera SIR is envisioned as a global economic hub featuring world-class infrastructure, civic amenities, centers of excellence, and proactive policy frameworks.

Strategically positioned along the Delhi–Mumbai Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), which spans approximately 1,483 km across six states, Dholera will serve as a key industrial node. Developed jointly by DMICDC and the Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB), it comprises 22 villages within Ahmedabad district.

Pending Approval: While MoEF has given the green signal, the project is still awaiting Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance from Gujarat state authorities .
