chevron_rightThe development of Dholera International Airport has entered its final phase, bringing India one step closer to operationalizing one of its most strategically planned greenfield airports. During a recent review visit, Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Rammohan Naidu assessed the construction progress and highlighted the airport's role in transforming Dholera into a global hub for manufacturing, aviation, semiconductors, and logistics.
The Minister announced that approximately 80% of the overall airport construction has been completed. Key infrastructure has already reached major milestones:
The remaining work includes terminal finishing, interior installations, operational testing, and obtaining the necessary approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) before commercial flight operations begin.
The Minister emphasized that Dholera International Airport is far more than a regional aviation project. It is being developed as part of an integrated ecosystem that combines:
This integrated development model is expected to make Dholera one of India's most important investment destinations for global industries.
The airport is being designed to support both passenger and cargo operations.
Key features include:
A major highlight of the project is its seamless connectivity with other transport infrastructure.
The airport will be connected to:
The recently approved semi high-speed rail project will have a station adjacent to the airport terminal, enabling passengers to travel directly between Ahmedabad and the airport with greater convenience.
The Minister described Dholera as an emerging Aerotropolis—an airport-led economic zone where aviation infrastructure drives industrial, commercial, and economic development.
With major investments in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, and green energy, the airport is expected to become a key enabler for domestic and international businesses establishing operations in Dholera.
The airport will also support India's growing aerospace sector.
Specialized Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hangars are being planned for the C-295 military transport aircraft, manufactured under the Airbus–Tata partnership.
Additionally, the Minister announced that Embraer and Adani Aviation Systems have finalized an MoU to establish the Final Assembly Line for India's first civilian "Make in India" aircraft at Dholera, with the first aircraft targeted to roll out by 2028.
The Ministry has directed contractors to complete the remaining on-site work on priority. In parallel, it will work with the DGCA to obtain the required operational clearances.
According to the Minister, the government is aiming to operationalize Dholera International Airport by September or October, subject to the successful completion of construction, testing, and regulatory approvals.
As one of India's most significant infrastructure projects, Dholera International Airport is expected to accelerate industrial growth, improve logistics, attract global investments, and strengthen the overall development of the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR).
With construction nearing completion and connectivity projects progressing simultaneously, Dholera continues to move closer to becoming one of India's leading destinations for manufacturing, technology, aerospace, and smart urban development.
