Four Greenfield Airports Get Green Signal from Civil Aviation Ministry

The Civil Aviation Ministry has granted environmental and site clearances for four greenfield airports, highlighted by a ₹1,378 crore international airport in Dholera, Gujarat, aimed at easing congestion at Ahmedabad airport.

The remaining three airports are planned in Andhra Pradesh, two of which are expected to be no-frills facilities.

• Dholera International Airport will cover 3,525 acres, equipped with two runways and a terminal capable of handling 1,200 domestic and international passengers, helping reduce pressure on Ahmedabad airport, which served 5.05 million travelers in 2014–15.
   
• In Andhra Pradesh, the first site clearance was issued for Bhogapuram airport, located about 40 km from Visakhapatnam, with additional airports planned in Nellore and Kurnool, potentially under PPP models.

A greenfield airport is built from scratch on undeveloped land, similar to Delhi's Jewar or Hyderabad and Bengaluru’s airports.
