chevron_rightThe Government of India has approved a major infrastructure project that is set to transform connectivity in Gujarat. The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given approval to the Ahmedabad (Sarkhej) – Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Line Rail Project with an estimated cost of ₹20,667 crore.
This landmark project will add approximately 134 km to the network of Indian Railways and is expected to be completed by 2030–31.
The semi high-speed rail corridor will provide seamless connectivity between Ahmedabad and Dholera SIR, while also linking key developments such as Dholera International Airport and Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex.
This project is particularly significant as it will be India’s first semi high-speed rail project developed using indigenous technology, setting a benchmark for future railway expansion across the country.
The improved connectivity will drastically reduce travel time, making daily commuting and same-day business travel between Ahmedabad and Dholera highly efficient. It is expected to accelerate industrial growth, enhance logistics efficiency, and strengthen Dholera’s position as a leading smart city and investment hub.
The project will benefit approximately 284 villages with a population of nearly 5 lakh people, boosting employment opportunities and regional development under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
In addition to economic growth, the project will contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing oil consumption and lowering carbon emissions, supporting India’s long-term climate goals.
